Garden makeover - 1st Summer after planting |
|
Well the garden has continued to fill out, with new colours and textures appearing every few weeks into the summer of 2005.
Using a panorama helps to show the full range in the garden as it develops.
The image below can be compared with the ones on the construction and spring
pages.

It can be seen in the above photo that the arbour we ordered at the Ideal Home show has now been installed. This provides a secluded and shaded seat in the South West corner of the garden. This is especially nice during the hottest part of the afternoon (should we ever get an afternoon hot enough). A closer view of this arbour is shown here. It was supplied by a Lincoln based company called Rusticraft. If you're interested, you can visit their web site at http://www.rusticraft.co.uk/. Just to the right of the arbour, is a banana plant. It shouldn't fruit, but seems to grow well enough, even in South London. It's shown below on the right.

The following photos show some of the other items that are now flourishing.
Imperata Cylindrica 'Rubra' (It's a form of
wild rhubarb evidently).

The Day Lillies and Crocosmia can be seen quite nicely in the following two close up images, taken a week or so earlier.
The pond looks more interesting now that we've reduced the flow over the waterfall and put in some water hyacinth, a lily and some fish. The 'round green thing' at the back is a frog refuge. It also helps to prevent the pond freezing over in winter.

I'll post more as it all changes through the rest of the year....
